Before Mizuno and Imayama joined V.West, the group's initial drummer was Ohkura Tadayoshi. When both members quit Johnny's Jr., Ohkura Tadayoshi, who was the initial drummer to begin with, became the drummer again. In 2002, the four top Kansai Juniors were added forming the current Kanjani8, which means Kansai + Johnnys + 8.
This group is also well-known for being irrepressible, managing to defeat all odds to turn out victorious despite all obstacles. Despite being kept in storage for a long period of time, their singles, Naniwa Iroha Bushi and Osaka Rainy Blues, both did very well, debuting at No.2 and No. 1 respectively. Osaka Rainy Blues, following the success of their first hit single, managed to sell more than 160,000 copies in the first week alone. Victory is made so much sweeter by the fact that there was close to no promotion at all for the two singles, very much unlike their Tokyo counterparts.
Also in addition, Kanjani 8 got #1 on the Oricon for their single, "Sukiyanen, Osaka" and their 1st full album, "FTO." *Also their album FTO was a bit different from their typical Osaka style songs, it was modernized and more rockish instead of their usual energetic/sad kind of songs* Currently, they continue the group with 7 members and in March 2006, Ohkura Tadayoshi was in a special drama "Cinderella ni Naritai" -I want to be a cinderella and that was his first special drama appearance.
And also since 2003-2004, Yasuda Shota plays the guitar, Maruyama Ryuhei plays the bass, and Ohkura Tadayoshi plays the drums. Nishikido is another member who can play the instrument but usually, he's one of the main vocalist with Subaru. Kanjani 8 is mainly focused on Nishikido Ryo and Shibutani but it doesn't mean that the 2 members take all the spotlight. Kanjani 8 is also a band that is comedic and makes you laugh in their unique "Osaka" way. Yokoyama Yu, one of the oldest members is usually the lead of their ridiculous acts. He is one of the main talkers along with Murakami Shingo. The 2 are always the MC and they talk all of the talk shows and the other members rarely talk at all in those moments.
Kanjani 8 also has a group inside of K8, it is:Kanjimi3/Daiyamada- The 3 musicians in the group*Yasuda, Maruyama, Ohkura*, they are always paired together.Yamada- A comedy duo consisted of Yasuda and Maruyama.3 Kyoudai-Consisted of Shibutani*Baru*, Yasuda*Chipa*, and Yokoyama*Yu*.SubaruBAND-Subaru*vocalist* Yasuda*Guitarist*, Maruyama*Bassist* and probably Ohkura*drummer* also.
But, it would seem like all of these members will have an equal share of dramas...but not really. Out of these 7 members, Nishikido is the one who has the most dramas up until now. He starred in a drama 2 seasons in a row and still getting more drama roles and he is improving slowly but greatly.Nishikido isn't only just a good young supporting actor, he still has the talents for his own style of personality and style. Well it isn't only Nishikido with that, all the members do have a distinctive personality and style that they absolutely enjoy. This is one of the most "Unique" and "Fun" groups out of Johnnys Entertainment and the only group who usually goes from Osaka to Tokyo back and forth and a group who hosts one of the interesting shows but never get golden time.
Hopefully they get their golden time that they wish and continue to show Japan and even the whole world how "Osaka" styled songs have their own taste and get to know the kansai region more.We can expect a lot from this group for a whle as they bring in new surprises.
